我的前秘书W小姐，建议我一定要带足御寒挡风的衣服鞋帽围巾手套，还有雨伞。
“十月底去，哦。”
W还不请自来，上门检查我的备装。
“不够。把我冬天去芝加哥时穿的厚大衣带去！”
结果是，我带去的厚衣服装满了二大箱。
结果是，二只行李箱的托运费单程是50美金。第一只$20丶第二只$30。
结果是，我在芝加哥的六天时间里，出奇的暖和少有的微风。除了雨伞外，所有的超常备装一件都没用上。

以往每次外出，都会给W小姐捎些当地的小礼物，以感谢她对我旅程的安排。今年起，她已不再是我的秘书了，还这么尽心尽力为我操心，更得好好谢谢她才是。走在芝加哥的“南京路”“淮海路”上（生活在芝加哥的上海人，戏称中心区的密歇根大道为淮海路，州街为南京路)，我用心留意着每一家的橱窗，看看哪件是合适的礼物。
“维多利亚的秘密”(Victoria Secret)在淮海路上新开了一家店，门面挺漂亮的，展品也挺吸引眼球的。
W小姐很善于展示自己性感的一面。记得有一年的公司圣诞晚会上，穿了一袭火红色大V领露背裙的W跟我合影了一张。因为该年晚会上与她合影的男士就我一个，着实羡慕死了无此艳福又盼此艳福的同仁群。
前不久，W小姐才把男友给甩了，一定没人给她送内衣的。在这个空挡期，送她一套最性感的是最讨好的啦。
送W小姐内衣是否有性骚扰之嫌疑？被人知道我送她性感内衣，不成了工作场所的性骚扰了吗？我都要退休了，保持革命晚节最是重要。即便没人说我搞性骚扰，我也没本事从她的借给我的大衣尺寸，准确估算出内衣的尺寸。性感内衣的尺寸买大或买小，就性感不成了。再兜兜，再看看，挑件别的更合适的礼物吧。
正在犯愁之际，W电话里下了“懿旨”：

原来，那家旅馆就紧挨在高架铁的边上。入夜，噪声极大。吵得加拿大和墨西哥来的与会代表，第二天一早就来了个“集体大逃亡”。
而W替我安排的凯悦，在宁静的芝加哥河港边。
“军港的夜啊静悄悄…”
“苏小明”开口要爆玉米花，我自然是毫无条件去执行，高高兴兴去执行。
只是，我的好奇心被完全吊了起来。倒底是什么样的爆玉米，值得W如此垂涎，口水绵绵不断地从旧金山一直流到芝加哥呢？

啊，买加勒特爆玉米竟然还要排上好长的长蛇队。
啊，加勒特竟然是一家有60年历史的家族老店。
60年，也就是说从1949年起，一代又一代再一代的东主，把这最最普通的老百姓的休闲食品做出一个品牌，传下了一代又一代再一代的口碑，招来了一代又一代再一代的顾客。
不容易啊。
队伍缓慢前移，终于轮到我付款买爆玉米花了。照W小姐的吩咐，买上二小袋“芝加哥混合装”(Chicago Mix)。一袋给她，另一袋带回家，也让我的家人尝尝芝加哥的土特产。
我对售货员说，这是我的朋友托买的，最早要到下星期二才能交给她。能不能换一个密封性好一点的包装，以免受潮。
“没问题，我重新包一下。”
满意地走出大门，再看一眼右手边的一块牌子，写着“谢谢你60年的厚爱”。
事后W小姐告诉我，在圣诞节前，那边的队可以排到五六个街口那么远。顾客们是五磅一筒五磅一筒地买，自吃送人两相宜。
加勒特的玉米花，不但在阴雨天开口放几天都不还潮，色香味俱佳，而且有多种口味可供选择。估计这就是为什么W小姐钟情痴迷玉米花的原因。
