今天分享自己在美国当中文老师的一段故事。
我有一个特别的学生，他是一个美国中西部小镇上初中8年级的白人学生。我是他们的中文老师，每天通过视频的方式给他们上课。

开学之初，我对这个男孩的印象是：沉默，腼腆，表情上有时甚至有点冷漠不屑。慢慢地，我发现他回答问题时虽然有点吞吞吐吐，可是发音很准，不带美国腔。他说得很慢，但是说出的话好像都是经过深思熟虑的，总是能给出正确的答案。
每次他回答问题，我总是耐心地等着，不打断他，等他说完，我就表扬他说他的发音像一个真正的中国男孩。渐渐地，他的脸色越来越开朗，开始主动举手。不过他不会像有的学生那样，老师话音一落，不等举手就迫不及待地脱口而出，他总是等着我点他的名字，给我的感觉他是个很有家教，很拘谨的一个男孩。
渐渐地，别人回答不出来的问题，我让他回答；做练习时我会安排他与学得慢的学生在一起。我开始把他当作班级里的模范生。
学期中间，我开车两个小时去那个学校看望中文班的学生。临走前，学校里负责这个班的老师跟我聊着每个学生的情况。说到这个男孩，我的语气充满欣赏，老师顺着我的话说，这个男生在中文课上确实表现突出，她本来想推荐他作为这个月的monthly star，可是校长不同意。
在那个学校里，每个月每个班会有一名表现好的学生当选为monthly star，就是每月最佳学生，学校会发给star们奖状和礼品卡做为奖励。
我忙问这位老师为什么校长反对这个男孩当选，老师说因为这个男孩在所有其他课上都是不及格。我说他很聪明啊，为什么会这样？老师说，他确实聪明，可是目空一切，他在别的课上态度很不好，从来不做任何作业，考试时在考卷上连名字都不写。他本来应该上高中9年级，可是留级了。校长认为他虽然在中文课上表现好，但是在全校是公认的坏榜样，所以不能做monthly star。老师感叹，没人相信他会在中文课上表现如此之好，看来他是真的喜欢学中文。
我听了这些心里真是五味杂陈，惊讶，遗憾，可是又有点欣喜，甚至是小小的自得，这是当老师才会体验到的得意。也许我在课堂上的鼓励和肯定真的开启了他的心门，让他有了学习的愿望和动力。
我心里暗暗祈求，向往中文课能够带给这个男孩真正的改变，让他有一天在学校里成为真正的monthly star。
