芝加哥的唐人街
美国东部几个城市的唐人街，数芝加哥和纽约的唐人街规模最大丶最繁荣。芝加哥有南丶北两个中国城Chinatown，乘坐红线地铁，向南在Cermak/Chinatown站下车，可以到达南中国城；向北在Argyle站下，就能到达北中国城，总体上说，南中国城比北中国城要繁华一些。
中国城的食物相对来说是比较便宜的，那里有百佳丶芝城食品(Mayflower Food，Inc.)等中国超市。留学生们每次去可以多购一些食物，一般是足够一丶两个星期的量为宜。在那里，虽然停车费贵些，但是开车去购物还是很方便的，尤其是批发大袋装的米很实惠。同时，还可以到Chinatown附近的大家发超市Richwell Market买新鲜的鱼丶烧鸭和扣肉等食品。

这两家超市是芝加哥地区两家最大的食品连锁超市，蔬菜和日用品等一应俱全，虽然零售价格高一些，但是食物等物品品质不错，而且会不定期打折。

山姆会员商店
Sam's Club
是美国沃尔玛百货有限公司的一个分支机构，专门服务于会员的仓储式大型购物连锁店，每年收取40美元的会费。其主营商品有食品丶日用品丶办公用品和五金家电等三千多种，而且为了给会员省更多的钱，所售商品多采用大箱包装或组合包装。同时，他们还会不定期打折，打折的时候有些保健品很便宜。另外，在这里卖的汽车轮胎的价格也很便宜。

同学们如果不愿意做饭，还可以到芝加哥的便利店里吃些快餐丶点心丶小吃等，有些便利店还是昼夜营业的，如White Hen Pantry等。一些学校校园里也会有这样的便利店，为学生们供应食品和饮料。
买二手商品
说过了芝加哥的商场和超市，对于留学生们来说，还有一个购物天地就是买二手货物。对此，首先还是应该找到合适的途径，才可以更容易地选到我们所需的物品。
买卖二手商品的途径：
◇ 关注大学中国学者联合会的bbs和学生社区里的信息，或是到大学内的相关网站去看看。比如，西北大学CSSA的bbs，伊利诺伊理工大学IIT的bazaar网站，还有可以加入IIT和UIC大学CSSA的Newsletter里的中国学生社区等。
◇ 学校的各种告示板上贴的广告信息，尤其在8月份，校园内会有很多人搬家，因此就会有很多Moving Sale，Garage Sale和Yard Sale等，那里的东西一般都比较便宜。
◇ 到芝加哥相关的网站上，看看有没有适合的东西。提供一个网站信息，http://chicago.craigslist.org/。同时，也可参见芝加哥cityserch这个网站上的信息内容。
提示：
需要提醒大家的是，买二手货物时，一定要注意卫生状况，特别是购买床垫丶家具之类的生活用品。
网上购物：
由于网上购物方便快捷，近几年越来越多留学生原意采用这种方式去买东西。同学们可以参看Staples和Office Max等网站看看，在他们的网站上购物，超过50美元可以免运费。
比较热门的网站还有fatwallet丶dealsea丶newegg丶bestbuy丶dealnews和circuitcity等，大家可以在上面找到打折的东西，在搜寻时要注意选择可以使用coupon的时候购买，这样可以省不少钱，然后直接用信用卡或debit卡付款。一般新生的debit card需要一周左右可以获得，credit card则需要约一个月的时间，另外，与credit card相比，debit card就是不能积累信用分数。
购物时，要求填写的信息有姓名丶生日丶电子邮箱丶银行卡号码丶住址和电话等。如果要把东西寄到学校的话，可以填写系里的地址，这个可以在各个系的网页上查到。
