近年来，越来越多的中国留学生和新移民来到美国，而日前发生的章莹颍案，让更多中国新移民对美国犯罪情况担忧。针对寻找安全社区落脚定居方面，有意租屋、购房的民众，或可透过了解地区犯罪地图，再来选择是否购屋或搬家。

两年多前在洛杉矶县波莫那市(Pomona)买了新居的范先生透露，他们一家在迁入新居后，不到一星期就有许多打扮看起来就不像邻居、身上多处都有刺青的人上门，询问有没有”货”？第一次被问到时，他一头雾水完全不了解对方在问啥，后来才慢慢从上门的人口中得知，他新买的房子之前的屋主，是这地区卖毒品的经销人之一。
